There are many types of jeeps like Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Gladiator, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler. All refer to adventure, exploration, and the outdoors. If you love to camp or touring with your friends and need to carry weights, loads, mini trucks, or a boat to the destination, then you will need something for towing these.
In this kind of situation, you can use a jeep wrangler tow bar or a kinetic rope. But if the weight is more than 3000 pounds, then you will certainly need a wrangler towing with your jeep. The 4×4 jeep creates four-wheel fractions and powers that will easily carry your wheeler load. With your jeep, you can install pop-up trailers, hybrid trailers, Airstreams, and teardrop trailers.
The jeeps of different year released version has an additional capacity to carry loads or trails. In every version of the next year, the power increased in pound measurement. Rather than 4 doors or 2 doors, the custom jeep wrangler has much capacity in towing.
In thor article, I will provide you a rough idea about the capacity that a jeep wrangler can pull realistically.

Jeep Wrangler Towing Capacity
Well, the measurement starts from 2000lbs to 4000lbs depending on your jeep model and engine power. But the gladiator can pull up to 7500 to 8000 lbs. Here, the fuel type you use makes a difference in carrying loads. For example, diesel engines produce 8x more power than gas. The third generation 3L eco diesel version 6 engine can pull up to 12000 pounds if you use a fifth wheel.
However, there are some downsides too. As a result, it will give you a low rpm, and the natural feel of your 4×4 or gladiator kicks will be minimized. The eco diesel engine will cost you more than thousands of bucks in case of using the gasoline v6 engine.
Now let’s talk about the general models or the model from 2010 or the earlier jeeps. You can do simple math here by watching the size and chasing. The 2 door style jeep has a maximum capacity of 1800-2200 lbs. On the other hand, the 4 doors can pull up to 3500 lbs at a time with a marginal speed and rpm. If your engine supports eTorque, then you will get a fuel economy ride and smoothness. The 2L to 4L cycle engines with eTorque are the best for the earlier versions of jeeps.
It is not recommended to see the year-released versions only. Because, the 2018 version of the 3.6L engine, 4doors has a maximum of 2500 pounds capacity. Another important thing here is the axle size and ratio. The 3.21 geared jeeps are powerful in engine capacity but really bad for towing. The axle will not allow you to carry more than 1000 pounds. If you don’t follow or read the manual properly, it will break down in the middle of your journey.
Whatever, for choosing the right axle or modifying your jeep, you need to follow a general thumbs rule. The number increases in the ratio of axle increase the towing capacity. You should try to have a numeric identity of more than 4.0. The 4×4 will definitely reduce the torque, rpm, stability, speed, and fuel economy if you choose the wrong setup of the axle.
The jeeps within 2000 pound capacity are the Jeep Wrangler JL and jeep wrangler JL unlimited. The models vary from 2010 to 2018. The 2019 jeep wrangler capacity increased with manufacturer towing setup up to 3500 pounds. If you are buying a jeep mostly for towing uses, you can go for the UNLIMITED version. The latest models have two variations, and the extreme is the UL version.
The first 1000 to 2000 pound capacity jeep wrangler came into the market in the year 2012. Till 2018 the limits were between 2000-3500 pounds. Still, if you are not sure about your model and your requirements, you can directly call to the customer service number provided with your manual. Also, you can find every model’s manual on their individual websites. So, it’s not that complex to know.
Every 2021 jeep wrangler has both front and rear pre-installed heavy-duty tow hooks. The 4 doors 2021 model can pull more than 3200 pounds without further modifications. And already said that if you install a fifth wheel then the weight limit will increase twice smoothly. The Sahara, High Altitude, Sport Altitude, and Sahara Altitude trim levels are nothing for a 4-door arrangement of 2021. But if you want to try with a two-door, you may need some modification with engine fuel and axle.
Another thing you need to choose wisely that the campers you install. Heavy campers need to be reconsidered after following every criterion told before. The jeep wrangler size and campers size is a matter. The more enormous load at the back will drag more air to stop and create a drawback opposing force to your vehicle. So, calculate all the maths and models with engine fuels also at the last. If you pull a bigger size load within the weight limits, then you will not get the desired result.
